Allied Luthiers Truss Rod Group Buy

After the rave reviews about the Allied Luthier truss rods, I'm putting together a order. I'm looking at expressions of interest in a group buy, so that we can defray the shipping costs. I suppose if there is something else that Allied has that you have a burning desire to get, we can work on that as well.

This group buy would make most sense to the Aussies and Kiwi's, as shipping back to the US or Europe probably wouldn't make it much of a deal.

Let me know if your interested and numbers.

Just a thought: if any of you guys plan on making electric guitars, acoustic basses, parlor guitars, 12 fret to the body guitars, or baritone guitars... you may want to think about ordering a variety of different length truss rods.

Also, Allied extends a "next column pricing" break to members of the Luthierforum and the Luthiersforum (OLF) so one of the Mods here may want to contact them and ask if they will include the ANZLF. If not, Allen, join the Luthierforum or OLF (free), and take the discount. The discount will probably pay most of the shipping, I would bet.

I reckon I'd be in for 4 or 5 depending on final price. I reckon a couple steel sting size and a couple classical size will cover me for quite a while.

Good point Dennis on both counts. I got the "next column pricing" break a couple of time this way now and it works fine as long as you phone the order and tell who ever you get on the line. I think from memory they have even requested that people place the order this way to prevent mix ups. I think if Allen gets the total first and negotiates on that volume it could work well, especially if the price break is mentioned just before the handshake if you know what I mean. Anyhow now you mention it, I had best be down for 5 x 12 fret rods as well

Off their web site, for 12 or more rods they are asking $13.75 US.

I'll let this run for a day or so and do a rough tally, then get in contact with them for a quote.

This is the best rod on the market and the best rod probably ever available. Mark Blanchard, who is a very cool guy and great builder, designed it.

I have used two of them now and they turn so very easy that I can turn it with my fingers instead of needing to use the included wrench. Under tension you need the wrench but it still turns very easy and you can make precise, very small adjustments too.

Lastly, the fit and finish is better and the weld globs do not need to be filed like you have to with the LMI rod - which BTW is the 2nd best rod going now IMHO.

It weighs 119 grams, same as the LMI rod but the Allied one is stainless, much like chrome in looks for your Harley guys:)

I've contacted Allied Luthiers and they will extend a further discount to us on our group buy's of 60+ rods. They will give us give us their best price of $10/rod. Any combination, mix and match.

Right now the tally seems to be 59-60 rods, but I might get a few classical size as well.

I'll give this until Sunday for anyone interested to get on board. Either you can PM me with your confirmation, or if I don't hear from you I give you a try. I'll be placing the order early next week, as I'm in need of a truss rod toot suite.

When I first saw the post I didn't realize you could get classical truss rods. If it's possible I would like 4 classical truss rods.

I was thinking of getting the classical size for a 14 fret parlour guitar. Do you reckon that the shorter classical truss rod would be the way to go, or would a normal length steel string rod be more appropriate?

$10US for a rod!!! That's pretty good!

I would think that the standard length is the way to go, unless the scale length is substantially shorter. Maybe someone that has built one would like to comment.

The parlor plans I have call for 12 frets to the body, so I'll be getting a few of the shorter ones.

Todd at Allied has contacted me and said that they will be out of the office for about a week, so if I can get the order in by Sunday, they will do their best to get it in the mail on Monday, otherwise it'll be the following Tuesday.

So the closing time for getting in on the group buy is Sunday afternoon.

I'll pay for the whole lot on my visa card and I'll take the total plus shipping to Australia, as well as bank fees, divide it by the number of truss rods that we are getting, then each person will pay just their portion of the total, based on the number of rods they are getting. Postage from Cairns to you will be added once I've repackaged and been to the post office. I'll PM each of you my bank details so that you can square up when the time comes.

This is looking a lot bigger than I first imagined. As of 10:30 am Sunday the order stands at 102 truss rods.

I will be going over the list and checking it a few times, so there is still time to get in if your interested, or make last minute changes if you need to.

The group buy on truss rods is now closed.

We will have an order of 102 truss rods, and a rough calculation based on Hesh's weight per rod puts the parcel around the 28-29 lbs with packaging, I think. I went onto the USPS web site and did a shipping quote. It looks to be around the $120 US for shipping.

I will do a follow up when I know more.
