How do you modify tenor uke plans to make a 6 string?
The obvious thing is to add 1 1/2" and some extra width to the headstock for the added tuners but what about the neck width?
Do you have to change anything else to cope with the extra tension from the 2 added strings?

The glass is half full... but I'll have another while your up!
It's not over until Ricky Pontin cries! (Not long now).
Great minds like a think!

You can work out neck width by simply adding 2 x intra -string spacing to existing width measurement. I generally do a full size drawing of my builds with string positions marked. This way I can be sure of string anchor pin position on bridge, position of machine head posts etc.Tonxi wrote:How do you modify tenor uke plans to make a 6 string?

2 extra nylon strings isnt going to add a whole lot more tension to the instrument. Wouldnt hurt to run some CF bars down the neck for insurance.

Re: How do you modify tenor uke plans to make a 6 string?
My 4 string ukes have a nut width of 36mm as it seems to be the what most people feel comfortable with. Not built a 6 stringer, but have heard others say that 40mm nut width is the least to 42mm at the most.
I add CF to all my necks just because, but a uke neck is just so short and the tension not that much you really don't need it. I would go with 5 fan braces instead of the more common 3.
