Weather worth spraying in...

Well, I've waited probably a month now to lay down some finish on these two instruments.

Finally some consecutive days of weather worth spraying in - time to get busy!!

So off to the "spray booth" and here I am, busy at work with some light reading between coats...

And some rather poor photos of the instruments in question on this occasion - both Tenor Ukulele's. Any other southerners take advantage of the weather?

Put a lazy susan on the on the step ladder and you could spray them from the bean bag. When your finished with some minor modifications it could double as a weather cock.

You mean in my "spray booth" ?? Why, the view of course! Takes my breath away Martin... and the overspray, fumes and the like. It's called thinking laterally within very limited space - not my head; the yard! Really ought to build some stairs to it though - feel a bit like a mountain goat getting up and down.

Contents Markus, just the contents. And the signatures - still trying to make them out; there may be an equation further on that helps.

What's the neck wood of the dark one?

So that one is - Ziricote Back and Sides, fingerboard and peghead overlays; Rock Maple Purfling and inlay; Honduran Mahogany Neck; Sitka Spruce Soundboard; Amboyna Burl rosette; Brazilian Rosewood Bridge. The other is - Birdseye/Figured Maple Back, Sides and Neck laminated with Ziricote; Ziricote Bindings, Fretboard, Peghead Overlays and Bridge; Spruce Soundboard and Maple/Ziricote rosette and purflings.

I like your spray booth. Best ventilation guaranteed. Mother Nature at it's best.

What guns and nozzle sizes are you using Jeremy?

What guns and nozzle sizes are you using Jeremy?

I've got two Porter Cable gravity fed guns Martin. One is the model PSH1 - HVLP gun with a 1.5mm nozzle. The other is a smaller model, the PSH2 detail gun with a 0.8mm nozzle. Not really sure what these are like quality wise compared with other brands but I've managed to get them to work for me. I believe the PC guns to be made in Taiwan.

I was considering one of these though -

But don't know a lot about it aside from it getting pretty good reviews in the US. The only reason to contemplate it at all is that I dislike using the compressor - big, heavy, cumbersome and noisy thing that it is. This unit uses a turbine system which is more quiet, lighter and smaller so would pack away or move about more easily. I did have the chance to buy a very expensive ($1500+) US made Turbine system some years back for $500 unused... Unfortunately, was pipped at the post by a 1/2 day. Sold.

We'll see; sometimes if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Lovely day for a spray Jeremy and very nice looking work it is to. You seem to have really embraced the relaxation aspect of the craft and that laid back cool vibe shines out in your instruments.
