A little progress on my L-00

Post by Dave Anderson » Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:04 am

I have the top and back glued on with HHG and trimmed, scraped and sanded. This L-00 is going to be a very understated Non-bling infested guitar. I'm building this one for myself :D It's got a nice, stiff Red spruce top I got from Zootman and curley Honduran mahogany back and sides also from Bob.
The binding, bridge,fb.,rosette, top purf.,and head plate are BRW.

Beautiful work Dave! This ones going to be very nice I can tell already! Like that center strip! Are the binding going to be the same wood?

I took care of the duplicate post Dave.

Can you tell me the dimensions of your L-00? It looks to be quite a deep body. I've got some small back and side sets that are sold as parlor size, so I'm looking for a small body design that is going to work with them.

Great looking so far, I look forward to seeing more.

Billy, Thanks, yeah the bindings will match.I made it a little thin for the small size of the guitar.

Allen, thanks . it's- 4 1/8" at the bottom and 3 7/8"at the neck.
14 3/4 -lower bout
10" - upper
8 1/2 - waist

Very nice Dave.

The Brazilian fingerboard, bridge and bindings will set it off nicely.

around the edge.

Looking great Dave buddy! My L-OO's came out deep bodied too but I don't think that it hurt them any.

I love using core guitar building woods and you covered all of those bases on this one perfectly, red spruce, Honduran Mahogany, and BRW - what could be any better than that!

Great job Dave! :cl :cl :cl :cl

Now you need to get yourself a Saturday evening lady killing suit, a bottle of Jack, a pistol, and bone up on Robert Johnson tunes and you will be good to go.

What scale length is used on L-00's? I think that the parlor sets are going to be too small for one of these, but I sure do like the look of them.

Allen,

If your parlor sets are too small for a L-00 you may want to try the L-1
that you see in the pic of Robert Johnson. The lower bout is 13 1/2".
In the Gibson flat top book they say the scale length is just under 25".

I plan on using the Martin 24.9" when I build myself a L-1 sometime this year. Hope this helps.

Tom

Thanks a lot guys...

Allen, I'm using a short scale (24.9) on this one too as Tom said.
On the GAL. plan the scale Gibson used is 24,25/32 Not to much difference from Martins

I'm sure this is going to be a fantastic guitar Dave. Alas , we can no longer get Honduran Mahogany sets over here which is a great shame.

I built my No. 1 with it , and it's a real chest thumper. I look forward to seeing this one finished . Looking very impressive so far !

Great work Dave !

Cheers Craig

It is going to be a lovely guitar; one of my favorite shapes, built with wonderful woods, what's not to like?
