hey, i've been looking for a place that sells mahogany and other tonewoods in my area

tried the yellow pages, but nothing really.

Does anyone know of somewhere close to Dandenong that sells mahogany?

Don't know of anyone out in the Dandenong area.

The only two places that I know of in Melbourne that you will find Mahogany or similar are Australian Furniture Timbers in Port Melbourne or Matthews Timbers in Vermont.

You won't get Honduras Mahogany as it's banned from importing due to CITES. You will get Fijian, plantation grown Honduras Mahogany ( not much different from the real deal) or African Mahogany at AFT. The African is a bit more difficult to carve but has essentially similar sound characteristics.

A reasonable local alternative is Queensland Maple. Similar tone and colour but slightly heavier.

Gerard Gilet may have some Honduras Mahogany neck blanks in stock. I got a bunch off him about 4 months ago.
