Naphtha?

Post by nnickusa » Sat Mar 23, 2013 7:58 am

Having read many suggestions advocating a wipe of naphtha to identify scratches and inconsistencies before finishing, and ending up with scratches in some of my builds, I went looking for some. All I found that calls itself lighter fluid is Diggers Shellite.

Is Shellite naphtha?

I also understand Shellite to be Naptha. I use it immediately prior to all lacquer coats after any light sanding just to make sure everything is clean.

Shellite is essentially naptha: http://www.recochem.com.au/files/downlo ... _Sep11.pdf

Keep it off your skin as well as using it in a well ventilated space.
