My Latest Addiction!

Post by pmatolcsy » Thu May 16, 2013 10:44 am

Hello All

Just thought I would introduce myself . I am an amateur builder from Canada. I just sort of fell into this about 18 months ago . I have been a guitar player and woodworker for almost 40 years.

It all stated about 18 months ago when a fellow bandmate showed me a Youtube video of Andrew Winton playing his Sipsey River Steel. I was having trouble learning slide on all my guitars as they were setup all wrong. I figured I could build one of those. Somewhere along the way I decided that hollowing out all that 8/4 lumber was wasteful and I might as well bend the sides. The rest as they say is history.

After 5 slide boxes including a double neck, a friend asked for an electric for his son. Neck throughs followed. I just finished my first acoustic and now I'm hooked!!! Several are planned. Many have already found new homes.

The information on this site is priceless for someone like me. I wish I had read it before I started (pau ferro allergy lead to 2 week course of prednisone YIKES). I'm still reading and learning a lot. I hope it prevents me from asking dumb questions in the future.

I've included a few pics of some of my builds(I'm at #10 now). I can only spray outside when the weather is good so several guitars haven't been sprayed yet and none have been rubbed out yet.

Welcome to the forum Phil. Some nice timber (and work) on those neck throughs! :cl :cl
Feel free to ask questions, we're a fairly friendly bunch down under (although some may beg to differ  ) and willing to ask most questions, we've even got our own resident academics that could probably give you the value of Pi to twenty decimal places!

G'day Phil and welcome to our forum. I love the weissenborn slide instrument and have built a few myself. Love em.

Your instruments display beautiful work.

Hope you enjoy the forum and learn from some wonderful builders here.
