Timber supplier: Brisbane

Post by willcall » Fri May 24, 2013 1:53 pm

Hi all, I dropped in to my relatively local timber supplier today and saw some amazing timber for guitars and what not.
Took a couple of pics incase anyone sees something they want & I can pick it up for them.
Some of the notable pieces were a highly figured piece of tas Myrtle that I couldn't afford, Huon pine suitable for electrics, figured qld maple suitable for necks & bodies, Mallee burls for bridges, etc, hoop pine & QLD Maple billets for electric bodies. red cedar chunks suitable for anything.

yes it seems like treated pine is the go
or if your lucky plantation Tasi oak
used to be a company called Woodstock that had fantastic Timbers but alas I think were bought out by a large wood tool supply company who will remain unnamed
who supplies great tools but not much to use them on

Indeed WA is spoilt for quality wood. Tim Spittle of Australian Tonewoods is only a few K's out from Perth's CBD in Bassendean. Like most tonewood dealers it's always better to give him a call to find out what is current, but the website usually has something to stir the blood all the same and provides contact details to arrange a memorable looksee .. 8)

I keep trying to visit Tim but every time I rock up to his house he's mysteriously "just left for a trip overseas" :?

Cool, I'll give him a call. I used to live over that way but moved to Wanneroo/Joondalup area a while ago. But still an easy run to Basso.

+1 for djarilmari. They supplied me with 2x 55mm x 160mm x 1m high figure Jarrah and the same in Wandoo.
