Played around with it a little. Probably let it sit for the week and make a finale tracing and working drawing and start work on it this weekend.
But nothing finale until the gouge hits the wood...

Good to know it took you more than 20 minutes Chris!

May I ask which tools you have used so far for the front carving?
Did you redraw the design with a scribe to the ebony or did you somehow transfer it from the paper drawing?

Pretty much 3 gouges an 11/3mm, 11/2mmand an11/.5mm and some knives and checkering tools. And another 4/3mm gouge.


I just laid out the lines with a marking gage I made and another gouge for the point between the slots, not sure which one it was but one close to the radius. I used a blade from my fly cutter for the marking gage/ compass.

Well i got some design and layout work done today. Use a white transfer paper from the fabric store to transfer the design this time. It will need to be cleaned up while carving but it's in the ball park.

Did some more ruffing in. I canned the white line transfer paper( lines not sharp enough and I kept smugging the off. Went back to gluing on the paper drawing and scoring in the lines with a knife and chisels.

OK, call it ruffed in. Time now to refine it, a little under cut here and there and some shaping and accent lines. I think it's coming along alright .
