Creative uses for sawdust?

Post by slowlearner » Wed Nov 13, 2013 9:20 am

Hi all, almost got a full bag on the dust extractor and I'm wondering if people use their sawdust for anything? Garden mulch, that sort of thing?

Seems a shame to just chuck it.

I keep a 20 lt bucket of it handy for any thing i want to absorb quickly , from accidental spills to soaking up glue run out on furniture builds.
Also annealing tool steel ,it works good , got to be careful though.

I can't get enough of it as I use it for paths between the garden beds for weed control and is makes for a soft path.

Getting rid of sawdust can be a lot of fun...

I give mine to a mate who is a Pest Control Man and he uses it to distribute bait for controlling white ants, borers, cockroaches etc.

Half fill a plastic shopping bag with it and put in the firebox once the embers are glowing nicely. It quickly turns into a solid glowing block of heat.
Anyone north of Tweed Heads can ignore this advice.

I put mine into used shopping bags upon which "Pure Angus" has already been written in large letters with a sharpie.

Then once a month or so, the mates and I grab a few beers of and evening and take the bags down to a local park situated right between a Maca's and a HJ's outlet, and place them out on the white sand between the swings and the slide in the kids playground.

It usually takes no more than the first tinnie before the apposing duty managers from either side turn up to claim a prize and turn on a bit of 'ring side' for the boys that beats the pants off of anything Rupert would slug you an arm and a leg for... Ah sawdust, an extremely underrated commodity IMO.....

Cheers

Thanks guys, just gave it all to a friend from church. Suffice to say, I think there are two homes who'll happily take it for their chooks.

And of course I'm happy to help them eat the eggs  *rubstummy
