A couple of years back a colleague come back from AFT in Port Melbourne with some cracking boards of Andaman Paduak .
As an aside something that's often missed is that New Guinea Rosewood or Narra is actually a Paduak ( genus Pterocarpus ) . PNG Rosewood is readily available at any of the big specialty guys , Trend , Lazarides , Mathews , AFT .....

I've bought Padauk from AFT a few times, they call it African Rosewood there. Here's a link Steve

Steve,
Scott Wise in Margaret Rr use to have it advertised for sale on his web site, bit closer to home for you.

Archie

There's two types of Padauk at AFT, there's African and there's some other one.

One is orange (African Padauk) and the other is more brown.

Be careful asking for African Rosewood as depending which part if Africa you go to, they all have different names, for example wenge is also commonly called African rosewood.

Well

1 - AFT...... http://www.afttimbers.com/Rosewood%20African.htm

Super helpful, and even though its only a small order, they made it happen.

2 - Scott Wise in Margaret Rr

Sent scott an email and got no response, unfortunate

Thanks for all the help

I won't bother with calling Wise again, I've called him twice now and both times he's "talked down" to me, in one call suggested what I was asking for didn't exist just because he hadn't heard of it and went on some rant he knows more than everyone, the other time I called him he told me electric guitars are a waste of exotic timber and I shouldn't be using ebony and to use rosewood instead. I've spoken to other builders (acoustic) much bigger than I am who have also had less than complimentary experiences calling Wise and who also will never again. Basically you get the feeling he's trying to be Australia's "biggest" (his words) importer of certain timbers but he doesn't want anyone using them? Great sales tactic.

AFT have always done backflips to help anytime I've gone there.

I know who I'd choose.
