New Luthier's Forum - LuthierforumAustraliaNewZealand.com

Post by kiwigeo » Fri Mar 07, 2014 12:31 pm

LuthierforumAustraliaNewZealand.com

Be aware that the above forum has just been set up by Mario da Costa. Like his main forum (http://www.luthierforum.com), the prime aim of the new forum will be to facilitate the sale of his wood.

Check it out if you feel so inclined be aware that the above forum is in no way associated with the Australia New Zealand Luthier's Forum.

As for Mario's wood.....if you think dealing with Mario will get you a better deal than from one of our ANZLF approved vendors then by all means go for it but be aware of the following:

1. Canada is a long way from Australia and freight charges are generally outrageous. I buy alot of wood and I buy in bulk so this brings down per unit freight charges but if you're buying one or more sets then the freight will usually cost more than the wood.
2. A reputable dealer (eg Tim Spittle, Shane Neiffer, Graham Hein, LMI, Stewmac) will offer a no questions asked replacement of goods or refund if the wood is not as advertised. Dealers who make you pay the return freight on wood before replacing it should be treated with suspicion. Who in their right mind is going to pay the exorbitant freight rates to return a single top set to Canada?? If the supplier won't trust your word supported by photographic evidence then I give them a miss.
3. Most tonewood suppliers will go to great lengths to make public their positive dealings with customers.......I've yet to see any supplier make mention of their unhappy customers. The only place you will see accounts of positive and negative dealings with a supplier is on forums that are not run by individuals with a vested interest in a tonewood business. Another good source of information is people like myself who do business with a number of suppliers.
4. None of the administrators and moderators on the ANZLF forum have any interest in any luthier supply businesses. I'm a Geologist by trade and building guitars is purely a hobby......I receive no financial gain from building (I give my guitars away) or participating in the running of this forum. Bob who owns the forum is a teacher by trade and while he builds guitars for financial gain you will notice that while he has a link to this forum on his business website the ANZLF forum is not decorated with ads and sprukes for his business.

If I buy some of his wood, do you think he'll give me my own subforum?

Most likely yes. The word is Mario is going to grant each of his 300,000 forum members their own "official" subforum. I'm afraid this is something the ANZLF doesn't have the resources to manage so I guess we're about to lose all our members to Mario's new forum. Bob was so worried about this that he hit the piss big time at Port Fairie and came home with a hangover as big as one of his barge arse model guitars.

You know I'm signing on each evening from Florida. There is an immense amount of talent on this forum and as a wanna be I visit a number of sites but you folks have the mojo. Not at all easy to duplicate.
My vote is for no worries!

PS
Good for Bob it's good occasionally :dri

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rob. We do ok for a bunch of "kangaroo convicts"*

"Rate Martin as a Guitar Builder

Please advise any Issues and warranty work that has been done by Martin.

Your over all experience with this guitar builder and the quality of their work

Were you happy with the tonal quality of their instruments.

love to see some pictures

Koalabear."

I'll rate myself:

1. No issues with my warranty work because I don't sell my builds. Every instrument I make is given away to musician friends. So far not one instrument has returned to the workshop for repairs of any sort.
2. 100% of the people who own my guitars are 100% happy.......to be expected when you've been given a guitar for free.
3. The tonal quality of my instruments.......could do better.
4. If you want to see pictures....they're on the ANZLF forum.

"Kim and Martin are there for not truthful and were banned for underhanded abuse of our policy.

If you get banned from Luthierforums many Sites you are a bad tas. "

Anyone here know what a "bad tas" is?

I think Bob is from Tasmania originally so yes he's probably a bad tas. I'm from New Zealand and have never been to Tasmania and Kim I think is from WA.....we can't possibly be bad tas's.

Well that seems very unfair, the pictures are of a Kangaroo, a koala bear and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There is not a single picture of a guy doing a Haka, a sheep or a possum. Looks like discrimination to me.

Mario da Costa is showing in a wonderful way how self-qualifying works for him. :cl :cl :cl

I think http://luthierforumaustralianewzealand.com really deserves a search engine ranking good enough to pop up every time when a curly furry bear or whatever spruce tonewood searching guitar builder / luthier browses the Internet. With this, the potential victims will be automatically warned by the subject itself. In order to help google doing its miracles here it comes again: http://luthierforumaustralianewzealand.com/m/poll/
