Most of the guys making a living, that i talk to, are around 15-25 a year. That living is pretty 'average' though (although its better in the USA)... they will never have a nice new car, never buy a house (unless they already own one), never send their kids to college or uni....simso wrote:IMO, low production would be 1 a week, high production is really a commercial enterprise which has the capacity to churn out hundreds to thousands per week
Their pricing falls into the $2500-4000 mark. There are a lot of "part timers" though doing <$2500 guitars and less than 10 a year. Employees? Just looking at Australia, and taking out Maton and Cole Clark, there would be 10 employers?? Twelve maybe? That would include luthiers that offer repair services also.
For guys building as a sole source of income, production is not their main concern. It's profits. Build 20 a year @ $4000 = $80k turnover. At $3000 you need to build an extra seven guitars a year to get the same turnover, but at a higher cost of manufacturing and therefore less profit.
