I'm having trouble tracking down a supply of extra jumbo fretwire (Dunlop 6100 or Jescar 55xxx) that is in one roll and not a silly length like 100" where I only need a little less than 7"
I'm building an 8 string guitar with a nut width of 55mm and a last fret of 80mm (that's wider than a 6 string bass )
Any suppliers you guys could point me in the direction of?

Re: Fret wire suppliers
Dunlop 6100 comes only in
1) packets R.R.P. $29.95 (which will not be wide enough for your 8 string)
2) tube R.R.P. $179.00
3) roll R.R.P. $299.00
I can order any of the above, the price will be that plus postage.
You may be able to get it cheaper somewhere else, I'm just quoting the catalogue price from the supplier.

Re: Fret wire suppliers
What type of bridge are you using, I could not imagine any bridge being wide enough to require an 80mm fret even if you went to 24 frets, a hipshot 8 on a 37 inch scale will give you 74mm at the 24th.dougmurray85 wrote:I'm building an 8 string guitar with a nut width of 55mm and a last fret of 80mm (that's wider than a 6 string bass )

Re: Fret wire suppliers
I'm always up for suggestions
My design is based off the Ibanez M80M ( click here for specs ) and they list the 24th fret as 80mm. Yes I have played it and it felt good in my hands. The RG2228 also has a 24th fret of 80mm and I have been playing on it extensively whilst my friend I serviced it for is in Argentina
My bridge will be a battery of Hipshot solos that have a minimum spacing of about 10.6mm according to my CAD projection, and although 80mm looks right for 24, I can adjust.
*Edit: I just may narrow 24 to be 74mm as it does look very nice on the plan and as a bonus may save a bit of wire

Re: Fret wire suppliers
I am a dealer for Jescar and if you guys want to do a group by I would love to help out.
Buying by the lb is cheaper than per strip.
They also have a number of available tangs. I can ship to one person and you can divide it up.
This is the same wire CF Martin uses and there are a number of tang thinknesses and crown sizes.
