shellac as a barrier coat

Post by old_picker » Thu Jul 02, 2015 4:09 pm

got a couple of projects underway that call for a colour next to a clear finish -eg black headstock face and vintage tint headstock. I am using mirotone and 3220 and and mohawk solid colours. I am experiencing the colour bleeding into the the clear.
Dewaxed blonde shellac sprays on pretty good over the 3220. It leaves an orange peel finish which is easily flattened with 400 grit.

just wonder if shellac would be a decent barrier to stop this problem?
