Plans - Small Nylon Stringed Guitar

Post by Kim Strode » Wed Jun 21, 2017 12:15 pm

My daughter wants a small bodied classic/nylon stringed guitar, probably the size of a parlour or travel guitar size. I can't find any plans on-line. Does anyone know of available plans, or do I need to get plans for a small bodied acoustic guitar and then modify the internal bracing to suit nylon strings? A little like a small 'fleta' style classic guitar?

You should be good to go with a Baritone Uke body size and stretfh out the scale length to suite the string choice you want, and modify the fan braces to suit the 6 strings. I did this with my body shape building several small bodied nylon 6 string. 5 fan braces is what I used.

A tenor Guitar body size is very close to the Baritone Uke. A Terz guitar is a bit larger.

Hi Kim,
A Torres style small bodied classical would be an ideal guitar.
Sorry to hijack the thread but if anyone has a plan of the short scale, 12th fret to the body Torres classical guitar plan I would appreciate a copy as it is on my bucket list of builds.
Cheers
Alan

I can send you the Torres FE17 plans (can be built with or without a tornavoz). It is small with beautiful proportions. Just pm me your email.

I just marked out a template last night using the printed plans with a view to getting started on the body mold (prints in A2 at officeworks or similar).

Now... if anyone has a CNC and is willing to make up a body mold or two I would be most interested...!

Hi Pete

I also don't wish to hi jack this post but are you building the FE 17
in the traditional method ie. with a Spanish heel on a solera? If so
why do you need a body mold?

Hi Bruce... FE17 inspired. :D I'd propose that Torres would use a bolt on neck, routers and probably Aussie blackwood too if he was around today...

Have emailed to those who have asked (including Kim)...

I've got a Scott Antares parlour string plan I can lend you. I can also grab my neighbour's daughters 3/4 size nylon string and do up some drawings and dimensions.
