If money is an issue and you live in Melbourne, then consider the following used handtools sale sundays by HTPAA...

I have picked up a dozen excellent tools from here in recent years - not necessarily cheap - but very fair

I have a few Veritas planes and am more than happy with their build quality, I bought the low-angle Jack plane and to be honest if I was buying again I would get the regular angle! Any end-grain work I do with my low angle block plane...... I bought spare blades for the Jack plane and have one at a steep bevel angle so it works out at a more regular setup if that makes sense?? Pricey, but like with most tools you get what you pay for šŸ˜‰

All my planes are Veritas. I can't vouch that they are better than cheaper models but overtime I pick one up I feel inspired to make it do excellent work. There is something immensely satisfying about using quality tools.

I just posted this link in a new topic but will post it here as well because it might help in choosing a low angle block plane. https://www.woodcraft.com/blog_entries/ ... ock-planes
Here is a link to the topic as well in case there are further comments on the subject. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7862
