How to make a rosette

Post by simso » Sat Sep 16, 2017 4:23 pm

Really this is pretty boring for most, this is just my process.

I wish I had purchased one of allens rosette cutters, I have the lmiii drill press version which is a very nice tool, but it doesn't allow a top to be cut to receive half rosettes or parts there off and so forth, also have a few of the stewmac circle cutters, but they do not impress me too much, they are good to hog the bulk of material away but do not leave clean edges.

Anyway enough rambling

Thnx Steve. On same theme, recently did the following. More random use of pieces of qld walnut & purpleheart, glued to some 3mm mdf. Glued it into rebate upside down then shaved off the mdf. Frank.

You make it look so easy. No tear out and a nice flush finish. That's a sexy looking circle cutter you're using. I've got a modified paper gasket cutter. If I take slow and steady it does ok - but not as neat as yours!

I love that Martin.
I took mine one more step today but not as intricate as yours yet. Still quite time consuming.

The wood in my rosette is from a burl of Coobah.
