Name of Fox bender part

Post by graham mcdonald » Thu Sep 21, 2017 8:22 am

I have made a Fox style bender for ukulele sides as part of the work on another book. I am writing up instructions on how to use the machine, but can't work out what to call the things that are used to pull the sides into shape around the upper and lower bouts. They are sitting on the bench to the left of the bender in the first photo and in place holding the ends of the sides in the second. Suggestions welcomed.

cheers

FWIW, I called them "sliding clamping blocks".

Jim Williams also called them "clamping blocks" in the text of his book but "wooden bars" on the plans he published.

"Fox blox" might have been more imaginative.

You could try asking at the source. Charles is very obliging.

"sliding cauls'. I like that one. I did send an email off to Charles Fox, but no reply.

Thank you all. Appreciated.
