Plane trees

Post by blackalex1952 » Tue Dec 19, 2017 2:58 pm

I just read in the Age :http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/nearl ... 06pty.html
I don't think elm is a good guitar timber, but I have used Plane for bindings and have the makings of a back and sides set. The highly figured plane makes excellent bindings. My experience of street trees and the authorities is that quality timber is usually cut to firewood sizes or to manageble size for removal to a tip. Maybe one or a group of you Melbourne guys could contact the people involved and dry some of this stuff for luthierie. PS remeber me in yr will! Ross
