Water based finishes in Australia?

Post by slowlearner » Sun Oct 21, 2018 6:32 pm

Hi all,

Sorry if I'm resurrecting a dead subject. I'm just wondering if anyone has found a good local (or locally available) water based poly finish? I hate nitro and thinners, but I'm willing to try something else. Not interested in importing something from LMI or Stewmac.

Cheers
Pete

You could check here Pete, I came across this a while back, haven't used it so I don't know what it's like.

All the clear lacquer is "out of stock". But then the rest of the site isn't much chop either really. :(

Hi Pete,
I don't have an immediate suggestion but can offer the following:

First I got some Rothko & Frost from GuitarAust a few years ago and tried it and didn't get great results but then it was only a one-off test spray and I didn't invest a lot of time in it. I heard from them about a year ago that they no longer are importing it as it wasn't selling.

Second, I am the Australian distributor of Aquacoat water-based clear wood grain fillerhttps://aquacoat.com/collections/water- ... wood-putty. Aquacoat also make a range of water based finishes https://aquacoat.com/collections/water- ... ng-sealers and I recently received a test sample of the Aquacoat Clear Lacquer. I have yet to test it so I can't comment on how good or otherwise it is but if I like it I will consider importing some and will let members on this forum know about it.

PM me or keep an eye on my website armstronglutherie.com.au if you would like to be kept informed.

Andrew
