First Guitar

Post by PHANTOM » Sun Aug 24, 2008 6:17 pm

Just new at this and i have found this a great place to get some tips. I bought a copy of "Build your own acoustic guitar" by kinkead, that along with this forum plus the help of you tube and i have managed to start my own project. I will add a few photos of what i have come up with if I ever work out how to do it.

Hiya Phantom
A few weeks back Taffy went through similar birthing pains; what grew out of that is a pretty comprehensive post originated by Allen in the Tutorials section ... How to post a picture to the forum ... well worth a read. Look forward to your pics (got any of the Skull Cave?).

Pics of First Guitar

Post by PHANTOM » Sun Aug 31, 2008 1:38 pm

Well I've finally worked out how to add pics (and by that I mean my wife worked it out) - so here are a couple. Only needed to resize images, they were too big.

Oh my gawd. Its the Gladstone Phantom! (I couldn't resist that :D )
A warm welcome to you. I'm also a new member, and also have a copy of Kinkead. May I also put in a plug for the voicing DVDs put out by US luthier, John Mayes. Those DVDs have been a huge help to me.

You are off and running. The sound of that guitar will blow you away.

Thanks this is my first go. The soundboard is stika spruce and the back is indian rosewood. Its taken a while but im getting there learning heeps as i go. I just finished cutting the bindings in then i get to start on the neck it is going to be mahogany with an ebony fingerboard. There is a long way left to go but am having a ball, hopefully it will be the first of many. The next one i do i want to do an all australian wood guitar, not real sure about what to use for the soundboard. Tap tuning is a bit of a mystery aswell but that should get a bit clearer the more i do. Its great to be able to read about other peoples work here and get more ideas at the moment anything is a help.

First Guitar Update

Post by PHANTOM » Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:49 pm

I've now glued the back in place and added the bindings. Only need to add the bindings to the front and it's time to start the neck. Here are some updated pics of my work so far.

Nice. This is your first? Well done. Keep the photo's coming. A little larger would be nice for old eyes.

Nice color combo of body and trim. It's going to be an elegant looking guitar.
