Selling my Luthiery wood and tools - retired

Post by zendo » Wed Nov 21, 2018 7:53 pm

Hello All,

I am stopping making classical guitars so I have to sell all my wood and tools. Much of the wood and parts I bought were from Stew Mac when the Australian Dollar was great against the US Dollar. This means I can offer good prices. The back and side sets were XXXX generally, as were the soundboard tops. I also have ebony fingerboards and many other woods available. My specialist tools include a side bender from LMI with two shapes available - a Hauser (currently on the machine) and a Robert O'Brien which is unused.

If anyone is interested I will be compiling a list of what is available. I won't be settling down to a life of leisure because I have my art and music to set me up creatively - so don't worry guys, I am not idle. I have also just done 20,000 kilometres around Australia but not a grey nomad yet. I will miss guitar making but it is impossible to make a living from it (I would also have to refine my luthiery skills) and I am tired of machines and the sawdust. I still play a rather lovely classical guitar I made - took it around Oz with me. I will stay in touch with the forum. Let me hear from anyone with some spare cash to buy some good stuff before I hit eBay.

The stone is hard and the drop is small but a hole is made by the constant fall.

Not interested (only because I'm over here on the mainland and not on the West Island) but it's an interesting conundrum isn't it? If you are a player and get into luthiery to build your perfect guitar, the sooner you get to build one you're happy with the quicker all that gear and left over wood is surplus to requirements! Luckily for me there are enough defects in the last one I built that I need to build another one. I just hope its better than this one!

Good luck with the retirement Zendo and happy playing.

Hello Peter,

I paid around $1000...used it 4 times... so I guess about $500 would seem fair...
