The Ukulele workshop manual

Post by graham mcdonald » Thu Oct 10, 2019 4:45 pm

The first copies The Ukulele have arrived from the printer and are now available, at least in Australia, to anyone who would like to purchase a copy. Go to www.mcdonaldstrings.com/ukulelebook.html to order either a hard copy or an ePub version.

It won't be available in the US or Canada for another few weeks, but you can pre-order a copy on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Ukulele-Illustra ... 385&sr=8-1

Someone sent an email from the forum, which I can't see here on the forum, but the question was about plans.
I have done drawings of each of the ukuleles which are included in the ePub downloads, but will need to be downloaded separately for the hard copy purchasers. I have done them as big plan-size sheets which places like Officeworks can print out. If there are problems get in contact and I am sure a solution can be found.

Hi Graham.

Great to see that you've finally done it, by hook or by crook!

I want to purchase an electronic copy, but I'm a bit unsure of whether I can!

I hate to seem obtuse, but the MusicBooks Press website says the following; "The ePub version is available for iBooks and Kindle for US$9.99. It comes as a zip file with the pdf of the drawing and plans. Other ebook formats may be available on request. Please email me to enquire."

I don't use a Kindle or any other form of ebook or reader - just a regular Windows 10 computer.

Your sneak preview of the Introductory- and other few chapters is downloadable as a perfectly readable pdf file. Am I able to similarly download, open and read the full electronic version of your book?

Hi Frank,

I purchased On-Line last night and found that the Generic Version of the E-pub works on Win10 with no issues.

The only issue I have is with iTunes, trying to get the Publication onto my iPad! (Worst Program I've ever dealt with).

Thank you for the heads up on Windows10. That is useful. Installing pubs on iPads can be tedious. One workaround is to use Dropbox to get the file onto the iPad and open it in Apple Books from Dropbox.

Thanks Graham, both the Uke and Mando books are incredibly detailed and thorough!

Such amazing resources for someone like me, a confident woodworker with very little 'luthery' background, really useful with so many details outlining each of fine elements which deviate from the typical 'screwing and glueing' of furniture making: such as recommended brace shapes, top and back radius and carving, neck joint alignment etc etc.

Cheers, Steve.

Mine arrived yesterday. Looking forward to having the time to actually sit down and read it over the holiday weekend. But from what I have seen, it's brilliant.

So impressed with the E-Pub, I've gone and bought the physical Book as well ...

For those of you who want to save a Dollar or two, The Book Depository Sells 'The Book' with free Shipping.
From Amazon it would have cost 1/2 the price of the Book just to get it sent to New Zealand.

The book depository should be the first place to look for a book, they usually have what you want and it's usually cheaper and shipping is free.

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't yet read your book in it's entirety...but like Trevor Gore and Gerard Gilet's Books your book is the sort of book where you read a couple of pages and you know straight away that the rest of the book is going to be just as good. Reading the rest of your book and posting a review at the top of my list of things to do...once I get my new house finished and the workshshop back up and running.

I have my copy - great to have a resource from a local craftsman - I ordered on line before realising I could have popped around to pick it up (before social distancing set in!)
