Hi
Having finished my falcate L00 with sassafras and sitka I now have a new OM project with blackwood and a silky oak soundboard (that's what my club had available)
Anyone used silky oak for a soundboard?
It seems quite heavy and I'm inclined to make it thinner (<3mm).
I know Cole Clark use it a lot and I haven't really liked the result (sorry CK- but your guitars sound great plugged in )
Any comments appreciated-including "don't do it"
cheers
MaK

Re: Silky Oak Soundboard
There are a lot of “Silky Oak” varieties. Certainly the bits I have tap like cardboard. The only exception is a set of got from Tim Spittle a few decades ago. It is no rosewood but it boings.
I wouldn’t use it for a soundboard, Western Red Cedar or event Pinus Radiata at a pinch.
