Another good start to a day in the shop. Knocked my Stewmac thickness caliper onto the floor and wrecked the thing. Guage is kaput.
$203 to get another one in. Cant buy the guage by itself by the look of it.

Bugger!
Never mind Martin all is not lost, those clamps I sent you may come in hand to make a quick release axillary table for your drill press as shown in this viewtopic.php?p=12282#12282 thread that was so kindly posted by a most valued member . Why that snazzy, good look'in and clever bugger even shows how to make a cool thickness caliper that works from the auxiliary table, no wonder I love this place, genius, pure bloody genius
If you wimp out and decide to just go ahead and buy a new set of calipers from stewi, can I have first dibs on the buggered set??? I'll have a go at fitting a new dial indicator
Cheers

Martin, you obviously did not get pissed enough last week to off-set all the bad karma. I suggest you get back to the pub quick smart. This may be the only remedy you have that will allow you to spend more than 5 minutes in your workshop without breaking something.
Kim, I would be keen to get a gauge that read in mm. Bl*&%^dy stupid fractions of an inch.
Dial gauges should be fairly standard sizes I would think. Must be able to retro-fit one onto the SM gauge.
Let us know how you go Kim.

You can bomb the world to pieces,
but you can't bomb the world to peace!

Cheers Allen . These have been posted before , so a lot of you will are probably sick of seeing them .,,,,blame Allen .
Made of scrap Aluminium , Bronze , brass , copper and steel. It can easily be recalibrated although I've not had to . It's in metric.
The centre spindle has tiny needle bearings ( off an old record player ) . The upper bout of the little guitar becomes the cam. Note that under the probe ,the bottom anvil ( I think that's what it's called ) moves to suit any angle the wood is presented . It's bottom is radiused on the some tangent as the probe's tip and sits in a bronze rimmed hole which lets it move around and seat at any given angle , but remains at a constant distance .
I didn't have any sheet copper lying about, so split a copper pipe , annealed , and flattened it out to make the guage
Cheers guys

I remember very well a few years ago when you first posted images of this wonderful piece of art at the OLF. Not surprisingly, just like everyone else who frequents the same guitar building forums that you do, I have never tired of seeing this amazing thing of beauty and have remained in awe of your skills as a craftsman ever since. Just like everything else that you do you bald headed git, this is truly exceptional work
Cheers

I've got a rig like Arnt's, so I believe he won't mind when I say:
Craig, that's the coolest gauge I've seen.
Oh, and Martin, I feel your pain.
There is an excessive amount of gravity here at my shop.
Useful things are always falling, and frequently wrecking.

There are some great woods, down under!
Martin , Rotten luck old mate . Your just having a bad run of late .That means you're in for an incredibly good run next .,,,, Stands to reason
Inlaying the noggin sounds a tad ticklish. You'd definatley want the depth adjustment on the Dremmel router base good and bloody solid !
Your remarks are too kind all you guys . Apologise for the Hi Jack Martin . Allen's fault
I carved this bracket out of a lump of scrap brass and joined a piece of Copper to it's end , into which ,a Brass Dot .

It does have a small one actually . You should know better PaulPaul B wrote:Hey Craig, that one doesn't have any inlays does it?

Hey Martin,
The calipers arrived today and they should work out just fine. Thank you very much my friend I appreciate you kindness and generosity. It looks like if I get hold of a new dial gauge with the same travel so the shaft is the same length I should be able to simply exchange the tips so the actuation lever will work and they will be just perfect. Not as sexy looking as Craig's example above of course, I don't think I have seen anything to compare with that effort, but still a pretty hansom addition to the workshop and one for which I am, and shall remain, truly grateful.
Once again thanks mate, u'r a good bugger.
Cheers
