Okay, heres the MSDS sheet for Z-poxy finishing resin. If you dont read same before using the product then at least read Kims recent post on his Z-poxy related health issues.

You beat me to it Martin, my head has been going the same way ever since I read Kim's post. A couple of compounds I use regularly,

http://www.diggersaust.com.au/files/lin ... boiled.pdf great for getting grain to pop before shellac or as a lubricant for the pad when french polishing, just dont kid yourself that it is boiled, dryers are added.

http://www.diggersaust.com.au/files/acetone.pdf for gluing edges of plastic bindings

More to come Im sure,

I'm in no way making light of this. I think this is a stellar idea for us to add to the body of knowledge about the things that we bring into our homes and expose ourselves and family too.

In fact I was more than a bit surprised that there even was an MSDS for egg white. But just to let you know, almost anything under the sun is potentially hazardous to our health. You'll just never know until it effects you, or someone you know.

You will note that under section 7 that it states:
Handling: Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid ingestion and inhalation.

When I was at Uni and we were going over MSDS' and the reason for them. We were all given an MSDS to read, the substance name had been blacked out.

This stuff was highly dangerous and none of us wanted anything to do with it. Respiratory irritant, hazardous to eyes, skin, nasal mucosa. Asphixiant, you name it, this stuff could really do you ill if you weren't careful.

Then we were given a copy of the MSDS without the name blacked out.

It was beach sand.

The whole point of the exercise was to point out to us that common sense and at least some basic knowledge is the best way to improve our safety when working with chemicals.

Having spent sixteen years in the technical end of the food industry i can tell you that most food ingredients have an MSDS. Egg albumen does not surprise me as it swells in water, think instant pavlova mixes. But then so does flour, yeast etc, etc. I even had to produce one for dried pasta for one paranoid customer! We used alcohol based flavours for one product line and you can imagine the hilarity when when we posted them on the factory floor.

In my experience most MSDS's are over conservative because no manufacturer wants to front a court and have their product disclosure found wanting. That is a recipe for bankruptcy. Still the ingestion risks associated with some colours and flavours are not declared to the consumer, go figure.

Liquid egg white from fresh eggs would only pose a drowning or microbiological risk, most probably E coli.

That said there are distinct risks with the materials we use and yes we have to be sensible as Paul has stated.

Here's the MSDS for Mirotone's Mirocat 3220. It's the catalyzed clear that I spray my instruments in.

Titebond III http://www.titebond.com/MsdsTB.asp?Fram ... SUBMIT1=GO
Tru Oil http://www.birchwoodcasey.com/sport/msd ... 35-TO8.pdf

Dried Shellac http://www.homesteadfinishing.com/msds/shellac.pdf

Hot Hide Glue ftp://woodworker.com/849-755.pdf

Seems like there isnt much you should ingest, inhale of have skin contact with! Like I said, conservatively written documents to keep OH&S authorities off peoples backs.

There are a lot of joke MSDS's out there,

Coffee http://www.hsegroup.com/hse/text/caffiene.htm

Water http://www.hsegroup.com/hse/text/water.htm

and of course.... woman! http://www.topedge.com/home/people/gaman/jokes/b17.htm

and man! http://hkentcraig.com/MSDSmen.html (I particulalry like the last section on "uses")
