Hi Guys .Dave Georgeson of Gordonvale Qld. Making Various stringed instruments including, harps, mandolins, guitars, ukuleles. and repairing. A quick request. Anyone out there know of a good substitute adhesive for plastic binding that won't affect nitrocellulose lacquer. I've been using Weld-On 16 fast set clear, which works fine on unfinished timber.

The best glues are acetone type that melt / soften the plastic and will affect the nitro. I have had success masking the lacquer with fine line tape, painful but it works. Might be worth testing some epoxy on the binding and waxing the lacquer. Be wary of any tapes on nitro, they can leave an impression that may reappear after being buffed out.
