Blackwood Telecaster

Post by Bob Connor » Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:41 pm

This Blackwood Telecaster is finished and ready to go it's new home in Don, just outside of Devonport in Tasmania. So there'll be a trip on the boat in November to deliver this and the Blackwood 000.

We didn't build the neck on this. It's a Warmoth compound radius job (12-16"). It's got a great truss rod adjust on the side of the neck near the 20th fret. You can see it in the last pic.

Pickups are Lindy Fralin Blues Specials - 5% more output than a normal Tele pickup. They sound nice. The neck pickup seems to overdrive a lot earlier than the bridge pickup,

Anyhow here's the pics.

Beautiful blackwood Bob and nice finish. Is the body BW as well? Looks like a 3 piece in the pic. The truss rod adjuster looks interesting. I've never seen this set up before. Is it smooth?
Cheers

It's a Blackwood drop top on Swamp Ash Dom and the ash is three piece. I got it from Stewmac. Bloody freight was almost as much as the wood.

The truss rod adjustment is smooth. Not sure how it all works but it seems to do the job.

Regards

Gawwwwgeous Bob, just Gawwwwwgeous. Be interesting to see that truss rod mechanism in the raw! They must use either some sort of bevel gearing or a worm.

Wow, what a stunner Bob, that drop top looks like crispy fried bacon dipped in clear toffee...this one is not for Elvis is it, I didn't know he moved to Tassie?

Cheers

Who can resist a Tele, nice job Bob. I had a look around and those adjuster work via a set of wedges that drive a incline. As you turn the screw it drags two wedges together that squeeze a incline to move at 90 degrees to the adjuster.

Thanks all.

I think there'll be one very happy young fella when he gets his hands on this one.
