Long scale soprano uke

Post by Nick » Wed Apr 03, 2013 4:59 pm

Here's a youtube link of a uke I finished for a customer a little while ago. He kindly did a quick vid & sent me the link .
Soprano sized body (although body depth was a bit deeper than standard) but used a concert scale.
Mahogany top with a modified bracing pattern and my favourite, Blackwood back and sides I got from John aka 'Woodrat' some time back. Sapele neck and ebony bindings with a single line Maple purf.

Once again thanks to Allen for his sage advice and experience.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

It has a very nice, mellow tone. Great craftsmanship in every aspect! :cl

Sounds and looks sensational. It will be " gettin' around much " for a long time.

Top marks Nick!! The Blackwood & Ebony are a beautiful contrast!

I'd all but given up building Soprano's as I find their fret spacing to restricting to comfortably play, although the women at the local uke club tend to fancy the compact size & plinky sound, so,

Thanks for the return of inspiration :cl :cl

Cheers

Glad you found it inspirational Gaz, the longer scale wasn't my idea, it was the customer's request, but fortunately not only did it up the fret spacing but also allowed me to shift the bridge back into the more 'active' part of the soundboard. The customer is still 'playing' with different things such as different strings and it may get a pickup system in it at a later date but for the moment he's happy.

That's just super Nick. When you told me about the combo I wasn't certain how it would go, but it's worked out a treat. And Dave sure can play and show it off.

Big thumbs up mate.
