Finished first Acoustic guitar

Post by soulman » Tue Feb 11, 2014 1:28 pm

This has been a great experience. I am so pleased with the end results in finish and sound.
Top; Sitka Spruce
B&S; Blackwood as are bindings, rosette and headstock laminate.
Fingerboard and bridge; Ebony, abalone side dots and fingerboard markers.
Nut & saddle; Bone.
Tuners; Gotoh 510
Pickup; LR Baggs Anthem.
Finish; Mirotone gloss.
Strings; Elixir 52-12.

Thanks for looking.
Ross.

You would have to be happy with that Ross :cl

what a great effort for a First. how long did it take you all up ?

That bound headstock adds plenty of class or is it a laminate ?

Thanks Tod

I started in August last year. I've been building three at once. Second one is ready for clear. The headstock is a laminate. I sanded an angle on it to highlight light wood.

Very nice Ross!
That blackwood is gorgeous and was put to its best use. I can't help thinking that all you guys are just spoiled by that stuff!

Here is an update of the maple guitar. nearly finished the coating process. Happy with the back not so the front. This is what Jess wants though. She loves it. I guess that's what counts.

That is a beauty Ross.
I like the body shape - small bodied and drop-shouldered. Did you follow a plan, or is that your own design?
cheers

Thanks Mark. Yes this is my own design. Mostly my own ideas. lots of surfing the net and peeking inside guitars at music shops.
