Ukulele Tenor

Post by Lutherie Gervais » Sat Dec 20, 2014 1:53 pm

Hi folks,

Here is the first ukulele out from my shop. I am a guitar builder but I got this project from one of my customer, so had to jump on it.
It was a fun project and I will make one just for me after xmas.

Overall shape based on Kasha ukulele plan I got from Ultimate Guitar Plans, and let me say both plan from tenor shape they have are the exact same. So which one did I trust ? None but my pencil and mesurments.
Bracing pattern is mine, I won't show it, but 2 braces in the back and the top is based on my classical guitar model wich is base on Ramirez.

Top : American Mahogany, 4 pieces. (some left over from my neck blank, I made the best of it, couldn't scrap such quatersawn pieces)
B/S : Bubinga
Neck : Sapelli, black laquered
Fretboard : Ebony with Evogold fretwire
Bridge : Ebony
Mini Gotho 510 tuners

Pictures are copyrights so as my designs.

This Ukulele will go to New Zealand in few days. The owner going to travel over there and will bring it with him.

Thank you

That is a really interesting and effective combination of timbers. I don't think I have ever seen a mahogany top with anything other than mahogany for the back and sides. It really looks good, especially with the black binding. Nice one!

I am not an expert in ukulele, I have seen guitars with mahogany tops and other b/s. I figured it would of work for a ukulele also, and the client liked the look of it.
Fun build.

I kinda like the black neck and that Somogyi styled headstock would be good for digging the bass player in the ribs when he nods off.
