Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafras Lapsteel

Post by Mark G » Mon Jan 26, 2015 3:26 pm

Another lapsteel I completed recently. Solid Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafras with an Indian Rosewood fretboard, maple inlayed fretmarkers, sassafra blockish inlays. Single P90 and just the volume control. Finished in Tru-Oil. I bought this piece of wood years back thinking it would make a nice drop top or even ukulele. It sat there for ages before I decided to make it into another lapsteel. I love the way the black just seems to drip down the front of the guitar. It's off to a new home today and I've noticed I have a tedency to take lots of process shots then forget to take one of the finished piece, so here it is.

Hi Mark,

It looks great, Mark!
I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing some of the progress shots, if you have them available.
What brand of P90 is it? How does it sound?

Thanks,
GregL.

Thanks Greg, I'll have to see where I stored the process pics. The P90 in this is one I had in the parts drawer so I'm not entirely sure what brand it was. I had been getting some good but affordable things from a UK ebay seller. I tend now to lean more towards the likes of Mick Brierlys gear simply because the personal touch is in my opinion really worth it.
I must send my apologies to everyone for having to turn your head sideways to see the pics properly.

That looks really nice Mark. I've been won over by lapsteels after watching Yes, You and i live on youtube, fantastic bit of music. Wayne

I really like that, the fretboard inlays are great.
