Ambrosia Maple and Ancient Spruce Tenor

Post by Allen » Thu Mar 12, 2015 1:47 pm

This one made from an orphan back set of the prettiest Ambrosia Maple I've ever seen. Just perfect to make a tenor from. Paired up with an Ancient Spruce soundboard. Ebony and Honduran Rosewood trim. Hipshot tuners and K&K Aloha twin pickup. And yes, it's a lefty.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

I wouldn't say it's the prettiest ambrosia set I've seen, I have s nicer set stashed away, only reason it's not used yet is its a few cm too short for my superstrat shape but I do have plans for it.

I will however say this is the prettiest Anbrosia guitar I've ever seen! Absolutely beautiful!

After posting about the Ambrosia this morning I had to dig out the pieces I had to refresh my memory. The coloring is very similar!

That is awesome Allen. You must be getting close to running out of that Spruce. You've certainly created some unique instruments with it. Well done. How are you travelling with the cyclones hanging around up there?

Wow, that's a piece of crazy looking wood, I absolutely love it (how not).
And the usual neat workmanship.

How are you doing the inevitable "pore" filling? Epoxy?

I tapped over the holes on one side prior to bending sides and after the back was joined. Then sanded careful over each hole so that a bit of dust from the surrounding area of the same color got into the hole. Then drop filled with thin CA glue. Repeat until level. Then flipped the parts over, removed the tape and did the same from that side.

Afterwards it was just the usually epoxy pore fill, to really even things out.

A very clever solution Allen, thanks for sharing!
