Not a guitar...

Post by martintaylor » Thu May 11, 2017 11:55 pm

OK, so I was challenged with building a violin. How hard can it be?? Turns out, a bit harder than imagined but I am happy with the outcome. Now, I know I may upset the traditionalists but I love timber and the thought of staining it was just not possible. Engelmann Spruce top, Euro Maple back and side and neck, ebony other bits. Finish, Shellac It is really loud and is settling in well.

Cello next I think...

That's turned out a treat. I really like the white look as well.

Well it is a luthier's forum, not a guitar builders forum... ;)

Looks beautiful and like a lot of work must have gone into carving that scroll. Too pretty to hide under a stain.

Where did you source the euro maple from?

Ditto to everyone else Martin , I love it .
As an aside I got a fiddle Blackwood in big enough to quarter double bass backs out , there's a challenge !
