Curly Blackwood and German Spruce Tenor

Post by Allen » Mon Jun 19, 2017 5:03 pm

I like building instruments on spec. as it lets me do whatever my heart desires without worrying if I'm going to meet a clients expectations. I was really keen to get to use some really fantastic Blackwood. I'd happily use for every instrument I built from this point forward.

I set out with the idea I wanted it to be very showy and featuring the grain and color in the timber, but in an understated way.

So I went for the stealth binding look. Same material from the sides, and using some Gidgee for the fret board and Bridge. And staying with satin gloss lacquer keeps the warm hand rubbed look.

The styling and design elements are outstanding.

Any plans to build another flat top in the future?

If you are talking about guitars. No chance at all. I tossed out all my guitar forms, templates and jigs a couple of years ago. And never looking back.
