Les Paul done and dusted!

This is my version of the classic Les paul. Australian Re Cedar top (hand shaped), Mahogany body and neck, Rosewood fretboard, Maple bindings (body, neck and headstock), Ebony pickguard, and covers, Golden Age PAF pickups. I love carving the necks on my guitars and now that I am making a few carved instruments (violin, cello, archtops etc) I think I have finally worked out my "sweet spot"

Hi Martin,
That looks gorgeous!
Is the Aust Red Cedar from Boutique timbers? From the same batch as your Les Paul Junior build (you posted in August 2018)?
Thanks,
GregL.

Excellent result. Much better quality than my Les Paul guitar.

Yes! That slab has been very good to me so far. I have about 3-4 drop tops left with that figure. Probably not enough for a carved top but just need to work out what shape deserves it next.

Hi Mike,

Yes! Now that I’ve had the chance to give it a few runs, the guitar is sounding great. I run it through a Blues Junior III Limited edition that I have replaced the speaker with a Warehouse speaker. Really broad dynamic range. I have wired it with the 1959 configuration which I might change to a modern wiring but thought I’d persevere with the older style wiring first.

This is stunning. I have not seen Cedar with that level of figure before. I've been thinking about timber choices for a semi-hollow Tele I'm planning, and I have several cubic meters of well-aged Australian cedar that I'm going to have to have another very close look at, I think!
