Blackwood and Sitka 000 Multiscale

Post by Jim » Fri Mar 01, 2019 9:23 pm

Heya everyone,

Just finished my 4th guitar, first multiscale.
Sitka top, blackwood back and sides,
Silver quandong binding
Casurina Fretboard and bridge

Borrowed the scale length and bridge shape ideas from Michael Bashkin- he makes beautiful guitars.
Whole series of new challenges with the multiscale but it turned out beautifully- I'd never even played one before!!
Scale 654.05 - 635mm

Hi Jim,

That looks bueat!
A couple of questions, if you don't mind:
- what are the neck laminations? I can see a couple of Silky Oak (Casurina), but what else?
- what bracing style and timbers did you use?
- did you use a trussrod/carbon fibre rod/s in the neck?

Thanks,
GregL.

Thanks Greg,
The middle strip is Nth silky oak, the lamination are Vic Ash and Silky oak. (Well spotted).
It's x braced with some very old German Spruce I salvaged from a piano. It's got a hot rod truss rod in and the finished is french polish.

Very nice Jim. I like the colour palate of the wood used. Very simpatico!

A multi-scale is very much on my list to build.
