Oh thank god the waters back on...

Post by kiwigeo » Thu Mar 17, 2011 8:41 am

Not a good day yesterday out here on the rig. The potted water system started springing multiple leaks and they had to shut it down for 6 hours. No running water and no dunnies for 6 hours. The galley couldnt wash dishes so we had to eat our dinner off plastic plates and with plastic knives and forks.....every tried carving up a lamb shank with a plastic knife???? They also had curried sausages on the menu...not a good move considering the dunnies were out of action.

Anyway I survived but had to make a few trips outside to point Percy over the railing.....not as simple as it sounds when theres a hefty breeze blowing.

Mind you...6 hours without water or a toilet is a minor inconvenience compared to what people in Christchurch went through and what many Japanese are going through right now. Northern Japan is coping snow and temps are dipping below zero in many places.

That Jim Reeves song "Welcome to my world" comes to mind
"Jesus Loves You."
Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

Get the boss to procure a specimen bottle for you Martin. You can fill it out of the breeze and dump where ever down wind is at the moment. Glad it didn't stretch out into days.

It got desperate at one stage. One of our blokes was close to needing to have a dump. We'd got to the stage of carefully planning the operation with one person assigned to hold the guy while he perched on the raiing and another assigned to hold the roll of toilet paper. Luckily for everybody that was about when the water came back on.

Dear God

Cant you just throw a bucket over the side, hoist it back up with a rope and then just flush the little buggers down with seawater?

Need a licensed plumber on board for that to work out Liam. Don't want any union trouble out there.

It could be worse - I think that these guys were out for a couple of weeks while they sourced spare parts. It'd be one hell of a long-drop swinging your bum out the side of this one...
