Going to be away for a while

Post by Allen » Fri Feb 13, 2009 1:19 pm

Some of you may know that I'm attending the Playmakers event in Albany at the end of the month. I'm going to hit the road tomorrow (weather permitting) and riding my motorcycle south to Geelong to meet up with Bob.

I'm off work for 5 weeks, and internet access is only going to be via my iPhone where coverage allows, so you'll all be spared having to put up with me for the next month.

Cheers Everyone.

Have a blast, Allen!

You know, I'll bet if you give Bob some good beer, he'll let you use his computer!

I'm only taking the camera in my phone, but so far the pictures are brilliant. I'm going to have to make a point of stopping and taking some pickies along the way. My wife is going to be kicking my *SS if I don't. I'll try and upload some along the way if possible.

As I understand, from Hesh, you could give Bob bad beer and he will, still, let you use his computer. :D

Have a great trip, Allen!

I do draw the line at Southwark Waddy.

For those of you not familiar with this particularly evil excuse for a beer it is brewed in Adelaide and is not a beer for drinking. It is a beer that is only worthy of feeding to the pigs.

I remember a time when the choice was between Ballentines Ale and Asahi (Vietnamese Beer). After trying Ballentines, Asahi was the winner. I believe it was the formaldehyde that gave it the edge. Ballentines was undrinkable.

Asahi is Japanese Waddy, And not a bad drop I might add. :D

I've recently returned from Vietnam and found the Hanoi Beer to be emminently quaffable.

Asahi is the West End of Japanese beers. If you want a decent Japanese beer then go for Sapporo. Brewed in the north where my wife hails from....and shes pretty tastey.

Just a quick update from the road. I had to ride through 500 meters of high water trying to get out of north Qieensland. It was half way up my saddle bags and the bow wave was coming over the tank. Rained very hard until I got to Proserpine. Now it's fine, dry and my face is very sunburnt.

Well, the chaps kept me pretty dry up until today. I got to spend the night at Michael Connors, and had a late start to the traveling day. Had to take an inland route because of all the flooding on tie North Coast NSW. Though it poured on me the whole day. Had to take a break from camping under the stars, just to dry out.

A cheap clean skin of Shiraz and some KFC, a hot shower, and I'm right.

Looking forward to spending some quality time with some mates in NSW, and a few of the forum members.

I've always said that shiraz has wonderful therapeutic qualities.

Good to hear you're getting on OK Allen.

Don't worry - as soon as you get past Sydney it'll be as dry as a dead dingoes....

I made it home yesterday afternoon. 10,000 km round trip from Cairns to Geelong. I was just so exhausted after the trip south and nearly a week in Albany that I just wanted be get home. So I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get over to Adelaide. That will have to wait for another time.

A very big thank you to forum members and friends along the way for putting me up. It was wonderful to get to meet some of the fine people that make up the forum.

I've still got about 12 days off, so it's out to the workshop and finishing off some ongoing instruments, and starting on some new ones. :D

Bloody sick of riding in the rain. I was lucky enough to hole up at Michael Connor's place while I waited for the cyclone to wind down, but the last 2 days home were pretty soggy ones. I unpacked the bike. Through everything in the wash, and hung the tent out to dry. Now I don't want to have to look at the machine until I go back to work on the 23rd.

The backless chaps aren't the problem. It's the great gapping opening on the front that gets the brunt of the weather Martin.

Here's a picture of the transport and hotel I was staying in. Great view of the night sky. It was one of the few nights that I camped out that it wasn't raining on me.
