Sponsor my Moustache for a good cause

Post by matthew » Fri Nov 02, 2007 3:47 pm

Hey there, Matthew here

Image

I don't usually do this sort of thing but its for a good cause, so here goes:

During Mo'vember (the month formerly known as November) Ah'll be growin' a Mo. This will be difficult; itchy, awkward, could be embarrassing, a few grey hairs will reveal themselves ... aaaaargh. I have not done this before.

But I and the Film Australia Mo Bro team will be bringing the Mo back (temporarily) because we want to help raise some money so help support research and services relating to men's health, particularly the fight against male depression and prostate cancer. Why?

* Depression affects 1 in 6 men...Most don't seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide.
* Last year in Australia 18,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 2,900 died of prostate cancer - equivalent to the number of women who die from breast cancer annually.
* Men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy of males is 5 years less than females.

Now, in order to raise money I need sponsors for my Mo. Doesn't have to be much; just think of a guy you know and think "OK this is a donation that might be of benefit for HIM some day" and donate what you can spare. Every little bit counts.

- To sponsor my Mo please go to http://www.movember.com/au/donate enter my registration number which is 99624 and your credit card details. You can do that for a lonely dollar if you want.

- Or you can sponsor me by cheque made payable to the "Movember Foundation" clearly marking the donation as being for my Registration Number: 99624. Please mail cheques to: PO Box 292, Prahran VIC 3181.

- Or you can just give me some of your loose change and I will send it on to the Movember Foundation with MY credit card.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

The money raised by Movember is donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression initiative, which will use the funds to create awareness, fund research and increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer and male depression.

For those that have supported Movember in previous years you can be very proud of the impact it has had and can check out the detail at: Fundraising Outcomes.

We start with a clean upper lip and at the starters gun (yesterday) we GROW GROW GROW! All and any Mo-growing tips are appreciated

For me and the Film Australia Movember team, Movember culminates at the end of the month at the Film Australia shave-off. This glamorous and groomed events will see Tom Selleck and Borat look-a-likes battle it out for their chance to take home the prestigious Man of Film Australia title.

I'll send you a picture of my prowess / progress and I promise to remain steroid free and growth hormone free for the length of the competition!

Matthew

More info is available at www.movember.com.

Feel free to join in and be a Mo-Bro if you want!

Movember is proudly grown by Commonwealth Bank, Holden, Schick and VB.

Movember is proud partners with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression initiative. :moo

Holy Mackerel that's generous of you Martin.

I promise I shall do my best to push these hairs out with gusto, honesty and a pinch of tea tree oil ... or something.

Hi Matthew

I just tried the website as well but there's no submit or next button after you enter your number.

I'm good for a ton as well.(see if you can get 'em to fix the site.)

And I'm hoping for a Jimmy Edwards waxed job.

Well, I'm still skint.

I'm in for half a ton. Sorry.

But that's on the proviso that they spend my money on a prostate test that replaces the current finger up the bum test  with one that doesn't involve a finger up the bum.

Isn't that the most scary pic you ever saw? Scared me.

Trying to work out how to resize pics with [img] tags but maybe its not possible.

The snoz hairs will remain, sorry. They are grown there to filter wood dust :-)

Open your image in "paint" pull down the "image" menu, select "stretch/skew" bung in 25% in both axes, hit save, and you've resized your image to less than 100kB.

Piece of piss.

Best thing for resizing snozzes is a thing from Microsoft powertoys.

After you've installed it you right click on a pic and click resize.

Voila, 640 x 480 pic that fits any forum.

bin using Photoshop since 1864 so yep, got all that.

But I'm lazy and the pic is the one I put on the MOvember website. I was wondering whether the [IMG} tag supports the html width attributes but it seems not ...

I'll fix it later!

BTW Irfanview in my opinion beats those other programs hands down and you can do batch processing etc and its FREE!

There is now a prostrate test that uses a blood sample, tests for an enzyme I believe. Its on Medicare so see your quack and keep your virginity.

Matt, I would but Ive got three more hairy faces on the go,

Mo

Post by Hesh1956 » Sat Nov 03, 2007 2:31 pm

In my neck of the woods a Mo is called a flavor saver......... :)

Earlier this year I switched urologists to one that I knew nothing about who's name is Dr. Go, spelled Goh. I was joking with the nurse who came in before the doc that "Go" was a great name for a urologist. The nurse told me that she heard that often.....

When the doc came in, and I was there for a prostate exam, the doc was a woman and a very attractive woman at that. If you could have seen the look on my face...............................

Anyway I have always tried to be a progressive thinker and believe in equality in all things. At least that is what I am known to preach......

So it was time for old Hesh to put his bum where his mouth was, I mean live up to my personal beliefs. With in 10 minutes I am getting the prostate exam and what do you say when something like that is happening?

I tend to say extremely stupid things when I am stressed, less stupid things when I am not stressed. So during the exam and on my elbows I said to the female doc - "geeze, our date has only lasted 10 minutes now and look how far we have progressed." She slapped me on the bum and laughed out loud......

The moron of the story other then being me is that female urologists can be pretty cool :) Highly recommended!

Sorry Mathew for digressing.
