Tim's palette of alternative tonewoods

Post by Dennis Leahy » Tue Dec 04, 2007 3:09 pm

Just wanted to give a cheer to Tim Spittle for offering so many alternative tonewoods. As I learned when I had a tiny exotic lumber company about 15 years ago, (which was all lumber from the Rainforest Alliance's Smartwood program), usage of these lesser-known alternative species takes pressure off of the heavily logged species.

I guess if I was Aussie, I'd say "good onya, mate!", but I'm just a goofy American, so I'll say, "way to go Tim!"

For me, building with alternate tone woods is the best part of building instruments. I am constantly asked what sort of wood this or that is, and inevitably the Aussies ask "Do you ever use Australian woods"? They're a patriotic bunch down here.

We'll on several of my guitars they are either 100% Australian or darn close. Have used Ebony finger boards on a couple.

Maybe I could get that cool 100% Australian Label.

Anyone every thought of that? :D

The label would have to be modified for my instruments....

My orders from Tim have been small but he has been unfailingly patient with me. The timbers are lovely, the service great, the price reasonable. Wether I can do justice to his offerings, well...... thats another story,
