Ok one of my replies in the xmas song post got me to thinking. If you could own any "dream" guitar that wasn't made by your own fair hand...what would it be?
As I stated in said post, for me it would have to be either a Rickenbacker 360 (running through a Vox AC30) or a 4001 bass, finished in Fireglo, would see me grinning from ear to ear. Can't beat that 'jangly' Ricky sound & the 4001 bass just has that 'cut' & bottom end rumble I love.

Easy question Nick. I would go for a 1950 Fender Esquire, not that I would play it and its lack of truss rod would probably make it useless to play anyway. It would just live in a fancy wood and class case on my bedroom wall.

I took advantage of the good Oz dollar and imported one of these second hand recently from the USA. I have been over it with a fine tooth combe and it is extremely well built instrument. The tone is vintage, woody, mellow and it can be a full on rock instrument too. There is no way I could build something as good as this. Everytime I open the case it brings a smile to my face. This will be a guitar for life!

I have several strat guitars and have played nothing else for many years. I love the strat! Although you can play most music styles on a strat there is nothing like the vintage sound of a set neck, short scale guitar with humbuckers. Recently I have begun studying Jazz guitar and would like to get some chops up. This new guitar has the tone for Jazz! I'm blessed to own it!
An original weissenborn lap steel guitar from the 1920s would be desirable but they are expensive and hard to find in good condition.

Like Nick I have to say Rickenbacker only I'm planning on a 12 string..........have already owned a 6 string.........loved it but really want the 12 string sound.
Music creates a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.
