For those interested Cadel Evans has moved into overall 2nd place in the Tour de France. Towards the end of last nights stage he had dropped to the back of the peleton after problems of some sort but his team (BMC) managed to get him back through to the front in time to get to the line in time to beat Contador across same by a whisker.

The only way that could happen is if someone tipped Conti off that it was all a hoax...the line his manager had told him to race too was only paint!

Nah mate...Cadels BMC team mate Hincape got up to the front and then put the hammer down. Contador and the rest of the Ace Stars had to put the power on to keep up with him. While this was happening the rest of BMC were busy getting Cadel up from the back of the peleton where hed had some mechanical problems with his bike (will teach him to use Shimano gear....Campag is the best).

Brilliant tactics by BMC.....

Just watched Frenchman Jérémy Roy pick up the polka dots for stage 13 of the TDF and then have his heart completely demolished by the awesome power of Norway's world champ Thor Hushovd....very impressive. At the 110 klm mark, Roy was up and over the top of the Pyreneese at 1709m above sea with a huge break up his short sleeve and a 1400m decent in front of him down to the finish line at Lourdes just 42.5 Klm away. Roy must have been seeing the headlines before his eyes and the French ready to celebrate the first stage win by one of their countrymen, but despite reaching speeds exceeding 100 KPH in his decent, Roy was wound back in by Hushovd at around 2k from the line, and then, the Norwegian put on a show of power that was nothing short of intimidating.....don't normally watch too much of the TDF but I am glad I did tonight

Scroll to the cross section image that shows the elevations along the rout and have look at the last 20k to the summit ....you would think these silly buggers would go and get themselves a licence to drive a bloody car like everyone else.

Apparently tomorrow is yet another brutal mountain climb and a very pivotal point in establishing who the main players will be as the the teams ready themselves over the next few stages for the run to Paris....nice country side also...pity about the silly spectators who insist upon dressing only in baggy underpants and doing their level best to get in the bloody way....perhaps they should give the riders tazers and double their points if they deliver a direct hit in the todger.

I think Roy knew he had a fight on his hand as soon as Horshovd broke away from the bunch for the first climb. Horshovd has always been thought of as a sprinter but over the years he's bulked up and at 82kg he looks like a climber. On the descent off the main climb you could see Roy actually gaining on the upward graded sections but as soon as the road went flat Horshovd showed his power and started closing the gap.

Tonights stage will be even more exciting with an uphill finish. Expect Leopard Trek to put the hammer down.

Two Irishmen were sitting in a pub when the Tour de France came on the main TV channel. Mick and Seamus watched the cyclists for a while then Seamus asked, "Why do they do that?" "Do what?" said Mick "Go on them bikes for miles and miles, up and down the hills, round the bends. Day after day, week after week. No matter if it's icy, raining, snowing, hailing . . . why would they torture themselves like that?"
"It's all for the money," says the Mick. "The winner gets half a million Euros (Dollars)."

"I see." says Seamus, "But why do the others do it?"
