Cool Stuff you've scored from work

Post by needsmorecowbel » Wed Oct 12, 2011 9:32 pm

Ever had a great find at work/ gift given to you by work colleagues etc? Post it Below with a description/ story!!!!

Today I got given this bit of driftwood that used to hold up a sculpture of an New Zealand Tiki. The Steel Base plate has a skewer welded to it that holds the driftwood in place. I got it home and an hour or so later i managed to turn it into a hip guitar stand with what has been described as an "eye raping blue" stand

Sorry, that's got to be the ugliest guitar stand I've ever seen!

Actually enjoying his 'spectacle' series that's showing here at the moment.

Nice guitar stand. It certainly would be an eye catcher on stage. You can also use it to display old diskettes, or as a contemporary christmas tree.

This was back in the early eighties and has nothing to do with music: the coolest thing I took home from work certainly was a bunch of foldable 8" diskettes I saved from the dumpster.

For the younger ones of you: these diskettes were able to store 80 kb of data and could be folded twice in order to fit in an envelope to be sent easier (and cheaper) by snailmail. :!:

I believe that I still have one or two of these diskettes but they are hidden between/under tons of other accumulated rubbish. So there are no pics, sorry.

I once had a short but intense conversation with Elvis Costello about archtop guitars.
Don't know how he feels about your guitar stand though.

A few years ago the company I worked for was moving premises. I got a mercury calibration thermometer, 5kg brass calibration weight, and a bag full of lab grade plasticware.
The thermometer is 0.1C accurate, the 5kg weight (which is now really out of calibration :)) is really useful in the shed for holding stuff  , and the plasticware has come in useful for my partner's wool dyeing escapades!!

Found out afterward they chucked out a bit of other stuff too, like oscilloscopes, and lab balances. :(
Cheers

Matt
