Jazz Piano Masterclass

Post by Dennis Leahy » Thu Apr 03, 2014 4:43 pm

I know, I know... this is a luthier's forum, but hey, a piano has strings, and a soundboard... so what the hell, right?

I also know that not all of you are jazz pianists, and so a LOT of this material will go over your head. But those who really care about music, really love music, will take the time to study this video carefully. You may want to watch this one full screen, to make sure you catch the nuances. Oh, and no drinking ANY beverage while watching this. Pay attention!

This man is a brilliant pianist, and is giving you a FREE master class in jazz piano... and you mock his beautiful golden-platinum-phosphor bronze locks?

The warm-up exercises alone or the new interpretation of Dsus4 alone are well worth every penny you paid for the class!

Loosen-up your elbows and enjoy. You may even want to use a clip of his artistic interpretation of "Wrecking Ball" as a ring-tone on your smart phone.

I've got to be honest Dennis... I don't care about videos without drinking any beverage while watching. As soon as you lift the prohibition I might have a look at it though!

wish I'd had this guy as my music teacher! 40 years and I've been interpreting suspended 4th chords wrong all this time! Why didn't somebody tell me?
Thanks Dennis for this invaluable video, I must track him down and re-learn all of my music theory!
Martin, it's his natural hair, he just uses Pledge instead of shampoo.
"Jesus Loves You."
Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

Marcus,

Oops, it was supposed to be a recommendation, not a prohibition. (I guess I did deliver it rather dogmatically.) I don't want you to spit beer on your monitor and keyboard.

Thank you Dennis. That sounds like I should get a silicone keyboard protection and a screen wiper first!

Love it, two for the price of one...not only does he give his musical interpretation of the emotion in the piece, but you also get a facial interpretation of that emotion thrown in for free. Talk about value plus, how the hell does he do it? Why should one man be blessed with so many gifts? :?

Cheers

Between 3:58 and 3:59 he is presenting a very good summary of the whole 7-minute video.
