Last night I had the price large to work backstage on a concert by the Australian Chamber Orchestra at Newcastle City Hall. One of the many incredible instruments that was there was a double bass built by Gasparo da Salo in the sixteenth century using woods from the fifteenth century. The sound that emanated from this instrument was astounding. In an airy 800+ seat venue it seemed to make the room resonate in sympathy. Played beautifully by Maxime Bibeau. What a sound! Blown away!
