Jazz clip - Gest8 live

Post by matthew » Mon Jul 07, 2008 10:29 am

I filmed and edited this clip of Sandy Evans and Tony Gorman's GEST8. We had three cameras; two handheld and one fixed. In two parts because the clip is over 10 mminutes!!

The youtube quality is shitty as usual but the solos are pretty exciting. Check the drum solo on part two as well! Simon Barker is amazing. If you like them, they'd appreciate a youtube comment/pat-on-the-back I think. There's more to come ... the next one has a guitar solo too :-)

I love Jazz musicians playing "scrambled eggs" style.

Who's the Japanese girl playing the koto with a bow...thats totally out of this world.

That's Satsuki Odamura. The bass kotos (she has two) are as big as canoes, and are made from the widest grained pine i've ever seen. Yeah they are amazing instruments.

There's a nice sample of her playing here:

My wife has a koto which she hardly ever plays....the thing is a P in the A to tune.

Well, this woman tuned it on the fly! Several time during a song she'd move a dozen bridges and then play another piece ...
