RIP Keith Emerson

Post by seeaxe » Sat Mar 12, 2016 7:00 pm

Another one gone. Prog rock pioneer and extrovert.

2016 shaping up to be a black year for my generation.

The Nice and ELP were pretty much where I started getting really interested in music other than the Beatles.

Favourite Keith story was that at one concert they wouldn't let him use the number one piano as he was just a hairy rocker and not a serious musician. So when he came in stage he played a short classical piece by leaning in and plucking he strings instead of using the keys!

Pictures at an exhibition was one of my ELP favourites. Five Bridges was one of my first albums.

Very Sad face. :(

Yeah a black day for me. A borrowed copy of Trilogy got me hooked on ELP. Brain Salad Surgery their finest work IMHO. Of late I was a bit saddened by some of the attempts by the band to rekindle the magic of the 70's and 80's....Keith was in pain alot of the time and Greg and Carl often didn't seem to have their hearts in the music.

Even sadder.....there are rumours the death was a suicide.

RIP Keith......

So let's see....
Lemmy Kilminster
David Bowie
Glenn Frey
Maurice White
Keith Emerson
George Martin

If I was a high profile 70s miso I'd be frightened to go outdoors!

Didn't know he had gone! A good bloke by all accounts, and just a young fella.
I'll add him to the list.
