45deg chamfer router cutter

Post by kiwigeo » Wed Sep 19, 2012 9:09 am

Trev,

When you rout out your classical bridges you use a 45 deg chamfer cutter for the ramp aft of the saddle slot. The only cutters I can find have a guide bearing on the bottom. Could you kindly provide name of supplier of the cutters youre using.

Cheers and thanks Martin

Mine's a no-name cutter I got in a sale at Carbatec. It was from a boxed set that had a few bits missing that they were selling off cheap. It's one of those with the sickly green colour.

Try looking under Vee Groove Bits. Carb-i-tool do quite a wide variety from 22.5 degree through 150 degree, including, of course, a 90 degree, which looks pretty much like mine.

The V-groove bits are specified by their included angle, so 90 degree included angle cuts a 45 degree chamfer.

Worth a look is McJing Tools Online. I've bought some gear fom them (mainly because I can't afford expensive tools)

Part No: JL7729

Stuff I've bought seems pretty good and they're quick to deliver.

Not sure if you're using this cutter for bridges, Martin, but the V-groove cutter I use for bridges is half inch (12.7mm) cutter diameter (1/4" shaft). The veining bit I use to reveal the string holes is 3.2mm.

Yes again youre right...got my cutters mixed up.

Cutters just arrived.......ordered yesterday got here the next day. Cant ask for better service than that. APworkshop come through with the goods again.

The bridge will have to wait...busy knocking up an external mold today. The next classical will be a bolt on neck affair.
